The Prius C hatchback beat out the all-electric Honda Fit EV, which made second place, to be ranked first on the list. The original Toyota Prius, the plug-in Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic Hybrid were all tied for third place.

The ACEEE devised their list by examining a number of factors on each energy-efficient vehicle, including each vehicle’s emissions but also the energy used to produce the car, the emissions of the utility companies used to charge plug-in models and more.
