For the first time, the carnival will also include the food & cultural festival in Caranzalem, Panaji from Feb 8 till Feb 13. The Carnival 2013 will be an exciting mix of cuisine, food, culture, fashion shows, entertainment and live music performances. The state tourism board is expecting huge tourist influx during the forthcoming Goa Carnival.
"We are aiming at least 1 million tourists to visit Goa during the forthcoming three-day Goa Carnival. We expect over two lakh tourists per day to visit the state during this period. Attracting tourists to Goa is important as tourism contributes 30-35 percent to state domestic product." Goa Principal Secretary, Tourism, R K Verma.
One more initiative has been introduced wherein Goa’s portly mascot will be seen dancing with the Bollywood actresses, fashion and music icons such as Neha Dhupia, Sayali Bhagat, Anushka Manchanda, Parikrama, Remo Fernandes and Indian Ocean. One of the major highlights of this Carnival is a fashion show by ace designer Wendell Rodricks.
The festival will have an element of competition with the King Momo contest and the cooking competition. However, the cooking competition is a part of the food and cultural festival. The three day Carnival procession symbolizes the Goa’s Portuguese colonial legacy. It generally takes place in February before the holy season of Lent. The floating parades will be led by a specifically chosen King Momo.
