This novel tells the story of Xai, a San (Bushmen) tracker, who is drafted into the South African Defence Force to help rescue 60 school children abducted by armed terrorists. In the chase, Xai’s closest friend is killed by the ruthless leader of the terrorists and he vows to track down the killer at any cost. Joining forces with a group of San hunters and their families, Xai learns that he has gone from the hunter to the hunted. The drama is set in 1994, the beginning of a period when Botswana was dismantling Bushmen homes and destroying their water supply.
