Jan. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- In the beautiful though arid Khalahari Desert, known as the “Thirst Lands,” the Khalahari Bushmen are in grave danger of survival. In the extraordinary novel Dare to Flee: The Last of the Bushmen, the Botswana Government has embarked on a scheme to remove Bushmen from the Botswana portion of the Khalahari.

They are to be relocated to settlement camps far from the traditional grounds they’ve occupied for 20,000 years. Based on true circumstances, the reason for the government’s actions is greed, as it simply wants the Bushmen out of the way to mine the diamonds discovered there in the 1980s. This novel tells the story of Xai, a San (Bushmen) tracker, who is drafted into the South African Defence Force to help rescue 60 school children abducted by armed terrorists. In the chase, Xai’s closest friend is killed by the ruthless leader of the terrorists and he vows to track down the killer at any cost. Joining forces with a group of San hunters and their families, Xai learns that he has gone from the hunter to the hunted.

The drama is set in 1994, the beginning of a period when Botswana was dismantling Bushmen homes and destroying their water supply. Learn more about this ancient people who have thrived in one of the driest climates in the world, only to find that their biggest enemy has not been climate, but other people.
