Jan. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- GARY, Ind. – January 28, 2013 – Film and television actor Malik Yoba will serve as the special celebrity guest during a timely public reading and open discussion supporting a new book that deeply explores the relationships between black men and their fathers.  Author Sedrick Newbern will host signing event for “Unconditional Forgiveness – Lessons for Letting Go to Build Better Relationships” at The Glen Theater February 16.

The book details the impact growing up without his father had on Newbern’s life, as well as how they were able to evolve and move beyond the pain to develop an unbreakable bond. The book also gives practical advice to those hurt in past relationships, so they can heal and develop healthy relationships.

"My experience has shown me that many people struggle with forgiveness of self and/or others,” said Yoba. “Any bit of encouragement that I can give to help folks along that particular road to freedom, I am willing to do.  As a self published author myself, I also know ho hard it is to get attention for ones work so I support Sedrik in his efforts."

Yoba is known for his starring role as NYPD Detective J.C. Williams on the FOX police drama series “New York Undercover” and as Yul Brenner in “Cool Runnings.” He appeared as Gavin in the 2007 Tyler Perry film “Why Did I Get Married?” and its 2010 sequel “Why Did I Get Married Too?” Currently, Yoba appears as former FBI Special Agent Bill Harken on the Syfy drama series “Alphas.”

“I am thrilled that Malik will be sharing his personal story during our event in Gary,” said Newbern. “Many black men like us grow up in single-family households and develop issues with our fathers over time. However, as I matured, I forgave my father for leaving us and missing many of the important moments in my life. At that moment, my dad apologized and forgave himself after living with many years of guilt. Now we are the best of friends and hoping to help others through our story of unconditional forgiveness.”
