Emterra Environmental up for Winnipeg Chambers’ “Spirit of Winnipeg Awards” for Innovation

PRLog (Press Release) - Jan. 28, 2013 - Emterra Group, a leading Canadian waste management and recycling company, has been recognized by the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce as a finalist for the “Spirit of Winnipeg” awards.   Emterra is recognized as an innovator in the area of making environmental sustainability economically viable. Emterra, along with the other finalists, will be celebrated at gala event to be held at the Fairmount Winnipeg on March 1.

The “waste is resources” mantra is what drives innovation at Emterra Group’s three operating divisions – Emterra Environmental, Emterra Tire Recycling, and Canadian Liquids Processors.  This mission is what paved the way for Emterra’s successful submission and recognition as a finalist.

Relentlessly driving waste from landfill and recycling more and “smarter” has thrust Emterra into the innovator spotlight within the waste management industry. For example, in Winnipeg Emterra launched and operates Canada’s largest fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) powered refuse vehicles, and the largest cold weather fleet of its kind globally.  Emterra’s Winnipeg investment in the CNG fleet and upgrading the recyclable materials recovery facility exceeded $23 million over the last year yet the payoff is significant. Greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced in the City of Winnipeg by 5,000 tonnes over the next five years. It is initiatives such as the Winnipeg one that sets Emterra apart, and why Emterra has been featured by such leading publications as Solid Waste and Recycling magazine feature earlier this year.
