In her legal practice, Yates concentrates in appeals and litigation in both federal and state courts. She has experience in commercial litigation, real estate litigation, environmental law, construction litigation, agribusiness law, criminal appeals, securities law, insurance coverage disputes, infrastructure issues and other issues.
Yates is admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of Colorado; United States District Court, District of Colorado; and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Ninth and Tenth Circuits, as well as the United States Supreme Court. She is also a member of the State Bar of Colorado, Appellate Subcommittee and American Bar Association. Yates is the Co-Chair of the Mental Health Task for the Colorado Lawyers Committee, and has been appointed to the Criminal Justice Act panel for the United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is currently serving a five-year appointment to the City of Boulder’s Transportation Advisory Board, advising the City Council on transportation issues and programs, and is active in transportation issues affecting the U.S. 36 corridor.
Yates graduated with distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she majored in Journalism and Mass Communications. She earned her Masters of Arts in Administration and Public Policy from the University of York, England. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Virginia School of Law.
