Electric lift trucks usually have maintenance intervals are based on “Pedal Hours”, a measurement of when the lift truck has the deadman pedal depressed.
Internal Combustion Lift Trucks Maintenance Schedule
**Per OSHA, Forklift Driver inspections must be completed per shift**
Forklifts items that should be serviced every 250 hours:
a fuel filter
oil change and filter
an air filter
lubricate frame and all lube points
Mast and Attachments
Drive Train
Engine Compartment (including fluids & filters)
Electrical System
Brakes
Hydraulics
Steering System
Safety and cosmetic appearance
Every 500 hours change:
Antifreeze
Spark Plugs
Replace points, condenser and set timing
Every 1000 hours change:
Hydraulic Oil and Filter
Oil and Filter in Transmission and Converter
Lube in Drive Hubs
Brake Fluid
Electric Forklifts
Electric Lift Trucks will have slightly different maintenance intervals because they have less moving parts
Planned Maintenance
If you have a lift truck in use in your facility that gets regular use, it is a good idea to have a fully trained and licensed technician look at your lift every 250 hours. Keep a copy of the items inspected in a file and be prepared to show it OSHA should they ask.
