The Rock Academy High School Robotics Team will host the San Diego FIRST Tech Robotics Tournament, the final regional qualification tournament prior to the San Diego Championship on Feb. 23.

PRLog (Press Release) - Jan. 28, 2013 - SAN DIEGO – Opening ceremonies for the Rock Academy FIRST Tech Robotics Tournament will begin on Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. with a demonstration by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department Bomb and Arson Unit – a fitting launch for the hot competition to follow. The six-hour tournament, the last regional qualification tournament prior to the San Diego Championship at Madison High School on Feb. 23, has drawn 24 teams from as far as Lancaster and the Arizona border. The tournament is expected to attract close to 500 students, spectators, parents and coaches to the Rock Church. Registration, judges’ interviews and inspections begin at 7:30 a.m.

The Rock Academy participates in FIRST Robotics, a national robotics program for youth. The computer-controlled, mechanical robots are designed and controlled by students. The mission is to inspire young people to be leaders in science and technology by engaging them in exciting, mentor-based programs that build skill and knowledge in science, engineering and technology.

WHAT:         The Rock Academy High School Robotics Team will host the San Diego FIRST Tech Robotics Tournament, the final regional qualification tournament prior to the San Diego Championship on Feb. 23. More than 240 participants from 24 Southern California teams are expected to compete in the tournament, and as many spectators are expected to attend.

WHY:          The Warriors’ Robotics team, among the top teams in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas, have already qualified for the Los Angeles and San Diego regional championships.They will host, but not compete, in the Rock Academy tournament on Feb. 9.

ABOUT THE ROCK
