Although the vehicle was sold in Latin America as a 3-door variant of the model from the United States, the effect of the Elantra GT has been felt in the entire western hemisphere.
FIPA is based out of Guatemala and has coordinated these awards for the last twelve years. Ten different vehicles were considered for the award, with the Elantra GT winning due to receiving the largest share of the votes.
The presentation of the award came from a partnership between FIPA and Univision, one of the leading media organizations informing Hispanic Americans with automotive news across multiple platforms, including radio and television.
