Ford Debuts the New Concept Pickup: The Atlas

Ford's new truck was named “most significant pickup” by Autoweek Magazine.

Jan. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- The Detroit Auto Show is one of the first venues at which auto manufacturers premiere their vehicles each year, and 2013 is no different. Chicagoland Ford dealer Arlington Heights Ford (http://www.ahford.com/section/secondary/about-us/Arlington-Heights-IL-Ford-Dealer) has served the automaker and surrounding communities for years, and it is with that relationship in mind that they are proud to announce the debut of Ford's new pickup, the Atlas.

Despite its short time in the limelight, the Atlas has already earned accolades from Autoweek Magazine, who have declared it the “most significant pickup.” Built as a glimpse of what drivers can expect of the F-series pickup revitalization coming in 2015, the Atlas looks to continue Ford's tradition of producing one of the best-selling pickups around.

Ford has announced that the Atlas is to be an exploration pushing the limits of fuel efficiency as well as technology and capacity advancements, continually advancing the expectations of the pickup truck.

Autoweek's executive editor, Bob Gritzinger, expressed just what it is about the Atlas that makes it so impressive, stating that it earned the “most significant pickup” award for the “things you don't see.” These improvements include a reduced weight from retooled parts and high-strength steel as well as aerodynamic updates to the pickup's body. Gritzinger praised the ways that these improved fuel economy, working in conjunction with the Ford EcoBoost engine and auto start-stop technology.

Although that start-stop technology is frequently in place for energy conservation in hybrid vehicles, Ford engineers have adapted it specifically for pickup performance to ensure that the Atlas still offers the F-Series experience drivers expect.

This is not the first year that Ford has been praised by Autoweek; in fact, it is the sixth year in a row that they have earned at least one Editors' Choice Award.
