Vacationer's Guide To Rural New England Bookstores in Amazon Top 10 Travel-Specialty-Family Sales

Newest edition of A Vacationer's Guide to Rural New England Bookstores has continued to be a Top 10 seller in the Amazon.com Travel-Specialty-Family sales category

Jan. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- For the second month in a row, A Vacationer’s Guide to Rural New England Bookstores was listed on Amazon.com as a top 10 seller for the Travel-Specialty-Family category of books sold on its website. As of the end of the month, the vacation guide ranked number seven, behind five books about Disney World/Orlando and one book about Family Travel.

“It’s really a thrill to have the guide book so well received by the traveling public,” said Richard F. Wright, 62, of Jefferson MA. “I wrote the book to help focus attention on the rural book shop and how it can enhance any travel plans a family may have in New England.”

The guide book features full-service independent bookstores, used and rare book shops, and a selection of Wright’s favorite “One-Day Bookstore-Tour” itineraries that families can use to “make a day of it” seeking out shops nearby to their vacation destination. His favorite bookstores and travel itineraries also appear on his website, http://www.GuideToNewEnglandBookstores.com.

“I sincerely believe that for those who love books, it can be a lot of fun to visit local, rural bookstores in New England as part of a vacation adventure, if you know where it is,” said Wright. “The guide book shows parents which shops have extensive children’s sections, which used shops have nautical or other local interest sections, and just how close they are to their vacation stops,” he added.

A Vacationer’s Guide to Rural New England Bookstores was published on November 29, 2012 and is now available in a growing number of independent bookstores in New England. “It was exciting to see the guide book on the shelf at Barrington Books in Rhode Island and at the Breakwater Books in Guildford, Connecticut, as part of a recent One-Day Bookstore-Tour we recently took,” said Wright. Other shops have indicated they have ordered the book from the Baker & Taylor and Ingram wholesalers, which provide the shops with the current releases, according to Wright.

Although some people may wonder why Wright would encourage buyers to seek his book on Amazon.com when he is trying to bolster the prospects for independent bookstores, he points out that access through Amazon is instant and nation-wide, whereas it will take many months for book shops across the country to hear about and seek to stock the guide book on their shelves. “I have one reader in Colorado who is planning a trip east, and the book will allow him to plan his trip with time for visits to the shops near his vacation destination. The Amazon connection makes that possible and the book shop in New England is the ultimate beneficiary as he makes his way into their shop,” said Wright.

Wright said he has already had many suggestions from readers about other bookstores to consider for inclusion in future editions of the guide book. “Those who have written to me with suggestions of book shops to include on my blog, On Saving the Rural New England Bookstore, in the next edition of the guide book express the same enthusiasm I have for my favorite shops,” said Wright. “Those readers want others to find and patronize the shops they rely on to be there now and in the future,” he added.

Wright publishes a website, GuideToNewEnglandBookstores.com as a supplement to the guide book. Visitors to the website can learn more about the book, order a copy of it, and find updates to facts about the shops listed in the guide book as things change. “We are always updating information for our readers, including when shops change their name or expand to other locations,” said Wright.
