Jade has a ghost camping out in her room.
Brought up by science-worshipping parents, Jade was always taught to believe only in what is Real. No superstition, no magic, no religion and definitely no ghosts! But then Jade meets her estranged grandmother and learns about the world of her Romany ancestors, full of magic and ghosts. Her grandmother is dying, and wants to pass on the family gift to her before it is lost forever: the gift of seeing spirits.
Jade doesn't believe that Emily, the very real-looking girl she meets in the park can possibly be a ghost. But when Emily reaches out to touch Jade's hand, Jade feels only a waft of frigid air instead of warm flesh. She flees, terrified, but when the lonely young ghost later walks right through Jade's closed bedroom door pleading for help, Jade knows this is what her grandmother wanted her to do.
Emily was murdered, she claims. Now she wants Jade's help to bring her killer to justice. Jade wants to help, but when Emily accuses Mr. Kane, the beloved Headteacher at Jade's school, Jade can't believe it.
Confused, and torn, Jade is unsure what to do—Emily could be lying, or not even real. But if she dismisses Emily's plea and refuses to help, she could be allowing a murderer to kill again.
