Park Place Infiniti helps train the next generation of technicians

Auto dealership donates equipment and offers internship program for students at local technical academies

Jan. 24, 2013 - PRLog -- LAS VEGAS – Seeking to support local automotive technology courses, Park Place Infiniti has created a new internship opportunity for students at the Southwest Career and Technical Academy and the Southeast Career Technical Academy.

Beginning this year, students from either academy can apply for a paid internship lasting six weeks at Park Place Infiniti. As an intern, the student works in the shop with Park Place’s certified automotive technicians as well as in the service department, the parts department and on the sales floor.

“This internship program gives a student a complete perspective of how a car dealership operates,” said Stephen James, general manager of Park Place Infiniti. “We take pride in offering local high school students the opportunity to learn first-hand about tasks such as an oil change, as well as learning how a dealership operates, from the technical side of service to the business perspective, including customer service and sales.”

Three representatives from Park Place Infiniti – Shop Foreman Rob Mowrer, Service Manager Mark Dilts and Human Resources Manager Lynn Robles – visited an 11th grade class at the Southwest Career and Technical Academy to introduce the internship opportunity. They also discussed with the students the automotive industry and the car dealership business.

In addition, Park Place Infiniti donated more than $15,000 worth of machinery to the class, including three machines that evacuate and recharge automotive air conditioning systems, an electrical charging tester to test electrical systems in cars, and two shelving units.

Supporting the automotive courses at the technical academies was especially significant for Mowrer, who had attended the Southeast Career Technical Academy.

“I wish the internship opportunity Park Place has created was available when I was in school,” added Mowrer. “Park Place may be new to Las Vegas, but it has a long history of offering a comprehensive, highly-specialized training plan for each position at its dealership, complete with on-the-job training and ongoing personal development.”
