Follow on Google News | Deerpark Town Board Passes Resolution Opposing NY-SAFE ActA resolution supporting the second amendment and opposing the NY-SAFE Act which was passed by the NYS Legislature was passed by Deerpark Town Board on January 22, 2013.
By: Town of Deerpark "We feel that this legislation is unconstitutional and should be repealed immediately," This resolution is the first of its kind passed in Orange County, NY. Since passage of the resolution last night, numerous municipalities around the state have requested a copy of the resolution so they can adopt it as well. A certified copy of the resolution and official vote will be sent to the President of the United States, both U.S. Senators representing New York, the member of Congress representing Deerpark, the New York State Governor and all state representatives. Furthermore, the town board has urged residents to go online to State Senator John Bonacic and State Senator Bill Larkin's web sites and sign the petition to repeal the NY-SAFE law. Officials on the town board said that there is no legitimate statistical information that shows violence being curbed by gun control measures. They cited examples such as Washington, D.C. which has had strict gun control laws for years and has seen steep increases in crime. Also referenced was a recent U.S. Supreme Court case, District of Columbia v. Heller, which struck down a lot of these unconstitutional gun control laws, A copy of the resolution can be found online at the town's web site at www.townofdeerpark.org.
