“Pepperdine’ Funds raised will go toward caring for homeless children through GSEP’s partnership with the Union Rescue Mission and Hope Gardens; Provide counseling to families who cannot afford it via the GSEP Community Counseling Clinics; and preparing K-12 teachers for service in urban areas. In Los Angeles: • More than 4,000 children from newborn to age 5 do not have a place to sleep. Families with children are one of the fastest growing segments of the homeless population. • 1 in 5 children has a diagnosable mental illness. Nearly two-thirds of these kids receive little or no help, leading to a decline in school performance, depression, disobedience, and aggression. • 1 in 3 students will not complete high school, a rate higher among minorities and students with mental health challenges. These students are 3 times more likely to be imprisoned during their lifetime.
