British antique expert and author is known throughout the Antiques world, he has appeared on the BBC’s Antique Roadshow, written books on vintage watches, host’s the Antiques Radio Show and throughout his career has discovered some of the rarest items, including one of the 8 known 1943 copper cents, a signed first edition Mark Twain book and a bronze statute that sold at auction for over $5 million. He noticed the statute in the back ground when a customer brought some photographs in of antique instruments.
Margarets father collected various coins, Cooper explained that one was fairly rare but the condition of the coin put it in the top ten of coins in that year. He expects the coin will fetch in excess of $400,000 when it goes to auction in March.
“I had no idea that a few coins could e worth that much, I remember my father telling me some were very valuable, I was expecting them to be in the hundreds of dollars nothing like what Cooper Enterprises are expecting.” She smiled teary eyed. “I have just made made a grand mother, I am planning using the money for a college fund, some family vacations and having some work done on the home that I have not been able to afford.”
The coin is Silver Dollar 1893 minted in San Fransisco, Cooper Enterprises said only 100,000 where minted, finding one in this condition is extremely rare.
Mark Cooper made a point that not every Silver Dollar is going to be worth over $400,000 some are in the $20 range, but like Margaret, some people do have very valuable coins. He asked if anyone has old coins or watches, he would take a look at them without a fee at his location. 2116 Bee Ridge Rd Sarasota Fl.
