Lewis Johnson, seven-time NBC Olympic Commentator & ESPN Reporter (Recently named one of the BEST SIDELINE REPORTERS 2012 (NBC) for SI.com.
On Wednesday, January 23, and Thursday, January 24, seven-time Olympic Commentator and professional speaker Lewis Johnson and NY/NJ-based Olympians will visit two Boys & Girls Clubs in NY and NJ to distribute over 400 coats, hats, scarves, gloves, clothing and winter wear collected over the holiday during his WORLD-CLASS COAT DRIVE organized in Dallas, TX. World-Class athletes, Olympians, Super Bowl champs and his generous Dallas/Fort Worth community donated to his charitable effort to help families in need that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Lewis was in New York days after Hurricane Sandy devastated the northeast and was compelled to help families in hard-hit areas stay warm for the winter.
Lewis will present “A View from the Olympic Broadcast Booth,” his Olympic-themed inspirational speech to over 200 youth at Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County in Jersey City and Educational Alliance Boys & Girls Club at P.S. 188 about goal setting, overcoming obstacles and pursuing your dreams. After the presentation, all young attendees will receive a coat/winter wear donated during his two-week World-Class Coat Drive.
“We are grateful to Lewis Johnson for his support of our Clubs and their families in New York and New Jersey,” said Frank Sanchez, vice president, sports, entertainment and alumni development for the Boys & Girls Clubs. “He will inspire our Club members and provide them with necessities like winter coats at a time when they are most in need of help.”
Lewis Johnson parlayed his passion for sports and television into a career that has taken him on a journey from Olympic hopeful to Olympic Commentator. As a student-athlete at the University of Cincinnati, he qualified for two Olympic Trials but his Olympic aspirations came to an abrupt end after being eliminated. Never one to give up, Lewis made his lifetime dream by becoming an Olympic Broadcaster....seven times over!
“Sharing a message of giving to others in need and instilling hope in young people is more vital than ever now. I look forward to encouraging these young people at Boys & Girls Clubs to pursue life like an Olympian by living a healthy lifestyle, staying focused and following their dreams,” remarks Lewis.
Seven locations in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex collected new and clean gently used winter coats, jackets, scarves, hats and gloves from December 15 - December 29, 2012 for the World-Class Coat Drive. Donations were collected to benefit Boys and Girls Clubs in the NY/NJ Metropolitan area and New York Cares 24th Annual Coat Drive.
Lewis is currently Media Training with Michael Johnson Performance (TX), IMG Academy (FL), and Global Athletics in Boston (MA). He will co-host Athletes in Action Super Bowl Breakfast with Brent Jones, three-time Super Bowl Champion, San Francisco 49ers and present Dallas Cowboys Jason Witten with the 2013 Bart Starr Award. On-air, Lewis will cover the 2013 Indoor USA Track and Field Championship Series: New Balance Indoor Grand Prix (Boston), Millrose Games (NY) and USA Indoor Track and Field Championships (Albuquerque, NM).
