By: Le Mosaiste The product that was selected for this contemporary black and white kitchen by the client and the designer was a very colorful and traditional Moorish/Arabesque mosaic tile pattern. The client says, "I was inspired by a Moroccan tiled zellige fountain. As soon as I saw how beautiful the color and pattern of the tile was, I knew that was my inspiration for the backsplash of the kitchen. I wanted to combine the old world artistry of the Moroccan tile with a modern flair". The firm worked diligently with their client and the designer to come up with a custom color scheme of their 1-20 Fassi mosaic. Ultimately, splashes of two of the season’s hottest colors, burgundy red and emerald green were deliberately infused into the mosaic to match other design elements in the kitchen, such as a red Murano chandelier and a green Murano sculpture titled "Snow White's Washup" from Italy. What makes the design of this kitchen so brilliant and unusual, is how incredibly well the backsplash with the handmade Moroccan mosaics fits in with the rest of this very contemporary and eclectic kitchen. Not only does it fit in, but it's the highlight of the kitchen. According to designer Skylar, "this isn't a backsplash, this is a painting" (CS Interiors, Winter 2013).
