Local Marathon & Half Marathon Program Encourages Local Spuds to Change Lives, Not Channels.
Seattle, WA, January 21, 2013: When USA Fit Seattle kicks off its first registration event on Wednesday, February 6th, it expects local television ratings to plunge. The half and full marathon training program hopes Seattle citizens will put down their T.V. remotes and join them in tackling this year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon or Half Marathon© on June 22nd, 2013.
“It sounds crazy, but you can do it,” says the program organizer Sarah Shaw. “Many people are intimidated by the idea of doing a marathon or half marathon, especially if they’ve never even run around the block before. But in 16 weeks, this program eases you into a training schedule that is not only safe but fun. Yes, fun! And when you cross that finish line, it is a truly emotional experience. It will change your life.”
Sarah and Co-Organizer Chris Mercado are re-launching the USA Fit program here in Seattle after the program’s 2 year hiatus. Both are avid runners themselves. Sarah has run 8 half marathons herself and coordinated the American Cancer Society’s DetermiNation training team. Chris has run a handful of half marathons and marathons and was a part of the USA Fit Seattle team when they were in action a few years ago. Both have had the pleasure of watching new runners achieve lifelong personal and physical goals with the expertise of professional coaches and the camaraderie of training with a team. USA Fit holds it’s training programs in 50 other US cities as well.
“Some amazing, lifelong friendships come out of this program,” Says Mercado. “We are there for each other every stop of the way, and everyone is in the same boat. It’s a great way to get fit and stay fit.”
Registration is open online at usafitseattle.com and runners and walkers of all levels are welcome and encouraged.
