Jan. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- European Cockpit Association members and the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) have joined forces and are mobilizing pilots and cabin crew for the walkout. The Captain Dead Tired Campaign will culminate with actions across Europe, the actions will vary from place to place but they all have the same aim. To alert the public to dangerous changes proposed in new legislation which could see fatigued pilots carrying us across our skies.

“For years now, aircrews have been waiting for safe rules to counter the dangers of crew fatigue on flight operations”, stated Nico Voorbach (http://www.eurocockpit.be/stories/20121129/aircrews-to-walk-out-for-safety), ECA President, during a joint ECA-ETF press conference. “Surveys show that pilots and cabin crew are already struggling with high levels of fatigue, nodding off at the controls of aircraft. Nonetheless, EASA chose to disregard scientific recommendations and put forward a proposal that accepts high levels of aircrew fatigue.”

In the UK, BALPA representatives will hand over of a dossier with evidence about pilot fatigue and scientific recommendations to 10 Downing Street, CAA and DfT. Guerrilla projections onto key London landmarks & video to be released.

In Paris, pilots and cabin crew will hold a 'Walkout' at the terminals of the Roissy CDG Airport (Paris). Starting at 10am air crews will distribute leaflets & unique 'uniform-style' t-shirts to passengers. Prior to the action, at 08:30am the unions will hold a Press Conference at the Sheraton Hotel CDG terminal 2. Journalists and passengers are invited to join the action. In Madrid, SEPLA, in close coordination with cabin crew unions, has organized a mobilization at Barajas Airport (Terminal 4).

Its hoped these actions and the campaign that has gathered signatures from all over Europe will sway legislators in Europe toward safer skies for passengers and crew, not tired pilots and flight attendants for profit.
