-- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Long Beach Alumnae Chapter is excited to participate in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Peace & Unity Parade Celebration on Saturday, January 19, 2013. The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. and originate on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Anaheim Street and will proceed north to Martin Luther King Jr. Park. At the conclusion of the parade, the celebration will continue at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park where Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Long Beach Alumnae Chapter will have a booth to meet and greet the community. The park hours will be from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote academic excellence; to provide scholarships;
to provide support to the underserved;
to educate and stimulate participation in the establishment of positive public policy; and to highlight issues and provide solutions for problems in communities. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has more than 900 chapters worldwide and has initiated over 250,000 members. The Sorority uses its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement to create its national programs. Long Beach Alumnae Chapter was chartered on February 23, 1986 to serve the greater Long Beach area. The chapter’s focus is to address the important needs of the community that are aligned with the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust.
