Inauguration 2013: Taxi Commission Issues Special Permits for Out-of-State Limousine Service  

The fee is $150 per vehicle.

Violators are subject to ticketing, towing and impoundment.

 1215          SPECIAL VEHICLE FOR HIRE PERMIT

1215.1       The Office of Taxicabs may issue a special vehicle permit that authorizes a limousine or sedan not licensed as a public vehicle-for-hire in the District of Columbia to operate for hire in the District for a period of not more than thirty (30) days during a particular event recognized by the District of Columbia including the Presidential Inauguration, Congressional Black Caucus, International Bankers Convention, World Cup Soccer, etc.  Only vehicles properly registered as vehicles-for-hire in another jurisdiction and rental cars shall be eligible to obtain a special vehicle-for-hire permit.

Burki Limousine chauffeurs worked the Inaugural in 2001, 2005 and 2009. This was the first time we had the opportunity to do an event of this magnitude. We had a trial by fire experience the first day and evening. As a result, we were forced to develop on the fly procedures for dealing with overworked and sometimes overzealous security personnel, closed roads, the ubiquitous road and infrastructure construction, snow, rain, and sleet, and unbelievable traffic.

We understand there were over 500 limousines supplementing the regular DC fleet, which didn't count the standard Town Cars and DeVilles plus taxis on the DC streets. Traffic was compounded by buses and everyone wanting to go to the same venue(s). Gridlock was the order of the day (or evening). We were able to reduce transit times from hours to 15-30 minutes between venues after the first evening. Our clients were able to arrive earlier, visit more galas, and enjoy their experience more. With heightened security in place for the events coupled with the potential for inclement weather, being able to rely on a dedicated vehicle to drop off and pick up as necessary makes for a decidely more pleasant and fun experience.

What Are the Transportation Problems Facing Attendees Without Dedicated Transportation?

Road closings (the National Mall was closed in 2001 for cross vehicular traffic, open only for pedestrian and parade traffic), the Secret Service and DC Police are expanding this exponentially for 2013,

Higher levels of security,

The potential for wind chills in the teens or lower, snow, sleet, and rain,

Several thousand vehicles from areas outside DC,

Drivers unfamiliar with the event, the area, and who use English as a 2nd language,

Dependence upon The Metro.

On-street parking will not be an option; expect problems finding parking and paying hefty premiums if/where available. DC and other security police will rigorously enforce all vehicular laws, especially those applicable to parked vehicles.

Option 1: Let us drive you and your friends to DC in a 8  passenger Ford Excursion 4x4 for $120 per Hour/7 Hour minimum

Burki Limousine will pick you up at your home or business, transport you to Washington and deliver you to your hotel. Depart when you want, arrive roughly 6 or 7 hours later. As always, weigh transit time to the airport, security and wait time to determine which option would be more feasible for you. We would also transport you home. See next section for DC transportation.

Option 2: We pick you up at Dulles, Reagan, or BWI in a Luxury Lincoln sedan for $150/$120/$250 respectively

Burki Limousine will furnish transportation. We will pick you up at your arrival airport, transport you to your Washington area hotel. See next section for DC transportation.

During Your Stay in DC  

During the day, your chauffeur/valet will carry you sight seeing or shopping without the hassle of dealing with cab drivers. In the evening, we carry you to your chosen restaurant and then on to the inaugural balls. This routine would be repeated each day dependent on your personal needs and the galas you have scheduled.

On January 21st, we deliver you to the Inauguration Swearing In Ceremony between 9:00 and 10:30 and then transport you back to your hotel afterwards (or to any of the other events scheduled beginning that afternoon). Transportation as directed for the afternoon and evening.

Airport Services / Train Station

At  Washington DC Dulles Airport passengers are met inside the airport in the lower level baggage claim area by the chauffeur bearing a placard with the clients name.

At  Baltimore Washington DC Airport the passenger is greeted inside the airport at the lower level baggage claim area.

At  Washington Reagan DC National the passenger is met inside the airport unless they request a curb side pick up. There is no additional charge for either of these services.

For all International arrivals, passengers are met as soon as they exit customs.

At  Washington DC Union Station the driver will greet the client inside Union Station with a placard bearing their name. Please do not venture outside the station.
