Jan. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Dancers from across Europe and Asia are preparing dance routines and packing their suitcases to travel to Romania for a regional version of the World Ballet Competition, the “WBC OPEN”. The competition will be hosted from March 21-24, 2013 in the beautiful city of Sibiu, Romania. Located at the foothills of the Cindrel Alps, “Sibiu is the picturesque city to host dancers with a pedestrian-friendly layout and unique landmarks as the oldest city in Romania” says Vasile Petrutiu, WBC Founder and Executive Director. “In 2007, Sibiu was named the Cultural Capital of the European Union, and we look forward to compliment their dynamic arts scene with the upcoming World Ballet Competition OPEN.”

Dancers of various styles including (Ballet, jazz, modern, and neoclassical) will compete for the WBC OPEN Excellence Award and $3,000 US Dollars, as well as coveted spots in the world finals held in Orlando, Florida, USA.

Unlike the world finals, there is only one round of competition to determine winners in each category. Dancers age 9-26 are eligible to compete as a soloist, group, or in a pas de deux. Plus selected winners may be chosen for Gala of the Stars in Sibiu, Romania and a possible invitation to All Stars of Dance Gala in Orlando, Florida, USA with all expenses paid.

“The WBC OPEN does what it says; opens the door to all dancers wanting to be a part of the World Ballet Competition” says Petrutiu. Last year’s inaugural WBC OPEN included dancers of South Korea, United States of America, and from across Europe. The top prize, the “WBC Excellence Award” was awarded to Reina Yagura (Japan) and Bogdan Plopeanu (Romania) and six competitors won invitations to advance the World Ballet Competition’s world finals in Orlando, Florida, USA. An established Judging Panel included Mihaela Vieru, Owner of Dance for You Magazine based in Germany, and Catrinel Sandu, a popular Romanian TV Host and personality.

The WBC expects more exciting results and is looking forward to bring back the WBC OPEN to Europe. “It was the first time we used our computerized-scoring system overseas. So it was interesting to see how the European audience reacted to it.” After receiving many compliments on the quality and unique style of the competition, it was obvious to continue the competition for a second year in Romania.

Competition enrollment for dancers ends soon and is accepted on a first come, first serve basis. For registration forms and/or more information, please visit http://www.WorldBalletCompetition.com or call +40 269 22 96 27.
