Healthcare Design Announces Inaugural Winners of “The HCD 10”

Jan. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- Healthcare Design honors nine industry professionals and one firm as standouts in their field for their work over the past year. Profiles of the winners will be published in Healthcare Design’s January/February 2013 issue.

JANUARY 17, 2013: Springboarding off its past coverage of the Most Influential People in Healthcare Design, Healthcare Design has launched a new annual feature honoring professionals across the spectrum of the design, architecture, and healthcare communities.

The HCD 10 is an elite group of professionals, nominated by their peers and selected by the editors of Healthcare Design, who represent the most exciting, inspirational, and influential work of the previous year.

“It takes a full team of people—from advocates, researchers, and educators to designers, facility managers, and construction experts¬—to move the needle forward on the creation of healthcare facilities that make a genuine difference in the lives of their patients and staff,” says Kristin D. Zeit, editor-in-chief of Healthcare Design. “We wanted to recognize and celebrate individuals in a variety of positions for their contributions to the bigger picture of healthcare design.”

Nominations were accepted in fall 2012 and were reviewed by the Healthcare Design editorial staff. Healthcare Design is proud to announce this year’s HCD 10:
•   Architect: Joan Saba, partner, NBBJ (New York)
•   Association/foundation executive: Tammy Thompson, president and founder, Institute for Patient-Centered Design (Atlanta)
•   Construction/building executive: Andrew Quirk, senior vice president and national director, Healthcare Center of Excellence, Skanska USA Building (Nashville)
•   Researcher: Nicholas Watkins, director of research, HOK (New York)
•   Facility manager: Dennis Monty, director of facilities planning, compliance, and special projects, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston)
•   Interior designer: Jean Hansen, senior professional associate and sustainable interiors manager, HDR Architecture (San Francisco)
•   Owner: Gary Kusnierz, vice president, performance excellence, Ministry Health Care (Marshfield, Wis.)
•   Educator: Frank Zilm, Chester Dean lecturer on healthcare design, University of Kansas School of Architecture, Design & Planning
•   Rising star (under 40): Natalie Miovski, principal and director of healthcare, EwingCole (Philadelphia)
•   Firm of the year: NBBJ (headquartered in Seattle).
