The 2013 Ram 1500 received a number of features unique to full-size pickups. One of the major revisions from its predecessor included an eight-speed automatic transmission — a first in the segment — which produces drastically improved fuel economy. Features like lower weight and improved aerodynamics also make the Ram 1500 a more fuel-efficient vehicle than ever before. The Ram also got the option of a Pentastar V6, which has received recognition as one of Ward’s 10 Best Engines. Available in the Ram 1500 HFE, the Pentastar generates 305 hp and results in an impressive 25 mpg on the highway when paired with the eight-speed automatic transmission.

Ram CEO Fred Diaz said that the Ram 1500 redesign came after his boss, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, told him to “Go big or go home.”
