Concerning Toyota's recent success, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A Jim Lentz said, “Thanks to the support of our loyal customers, and the hard work of our dedicated associates, team members and dealers, Toyota achieved a number of important milestones in 2012. As we continue with the most aggressive product launch in our history, we're confident this momentum will continue in the year ahead.”
Toyota's product launch included the debut of 19 new or overhauled designs in the past 12 months. In 2012, combined Toyota, Scion, and Lexus models made up about 12.2% of the North American auto sales market. The 2012 Toyota Prius helped to bolster numbers thanks to hybrid and other fuel-efficient model sales nearly doubling across the market in 2012, with Toyota holding nearly a 70% stake in this market.
Increased demand for Toyota vehicles means increased production, which in turn means more jobs. Toyota currently has 14 North American vehicle production plants, with its newest plant having recently just opened in Blue Springs, Mississippi. The 14 plants currently supply 70% of all of the Toyota models sold in the United States. These plants export a huge number of Toyota vehicles all over the world. Plans for increased expansion in the production sector are currently underway with Toyota hoping to add 3,500 more jobs.
