Filliou proposed a public holiday urging us all to celebrate the presence of art in our lives through birthday parties, collaborative artworks, cross art-form gatherings and events.
The absurdity of Filliou’s declaration of Art’s Birthday, belies a serious desire to celebrate creativity in our everyday lives, challenging hierarchies between artists, between arts organisations;
The festivities are led by Swansea based Art’s Birthday Wales, our very own microcosm of the ‘Eternal Network’, in collaboration with Elysium Gallery, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Mission Gallery and Supersaurus.
This is Art’s Birthday Wales 6th year as part of the ‘Eternal Network’. This years festivities include our offsite project which is a birthday party complete with 12 specially commissioned cakes, party games including pass the parcel courtesy of Mission Gallery, music, talks, films and artist’s presentations.
In the evening Elysium will host another party to continue the celebrations into the night at the Cove Café on Castle Street, Swansea. A whole host of artists’ films, talks and surprise events will also take place. For full programme information please visit our website http://www.swansea.gov.uk/
Last but certainly not least, we are extremely privileged to invite to Swansea our very special guest, Joachim Pfeufer. Joachim worked with Robert Filliou on a proposition for a Centre of Permanent Creation called the PoïPoïdrome.
This is fifty this year and Joachim will be travelling from France to bring the PoïPoïdrome to Swansea and guide us through its rooms.
