Maryland PT/PTA License Renewal & CEU Info

License renewal and CEU information for Maryland-licensed physical therapists and assistants with an odd-numbered license.

Jan. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Maryland-licensed Physical Therapists (PTs) and Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) with a license number ending in an odd-number have an upcoming license renewal deadline of May 31, 2013.

Licenses are renewed biennially on an odd-even basis via on-line system. License numbers ending with an odd-number renew in odd-numbered years. License numbers ending with an even number renew in even-numbered years. The Board must receive your online renewal by May 16th to ensure that your license is mailed back to you before May 31st. Failure to renew your license prior to its expiration date will result in loss of licensure and the right to practice physical therapy in Maryland.

CEU Requirements

PTs are required to earn 30 contact hours (3.0 CEUs) and PTAs are required to earn 20 contact hours (2.0 CEUs) of continuing education credit during each 2-year biennium in order to renew a license. Continuing education must be earned between April 1st and March 31st of the 2 years prior to renewal and must be board-approved (http://dhmh.maryland.gov/bphte/Documents%20Misc/ceusapproved.pdf).

Milestone Continuing Education is approved by the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy to offer online and home study continuing education courses to Maryland-licensed PTs/PTAs. Courses listed have been approved for credit: https://www.milestonece.com/course/maryland/pt-pta/

CEUs will not be required if your license was issued one year or less before the renewal period.

The following courses are unsatisfactory: Inservice education, on-the-job training, "experimental" courses and short conferences including "overview approaches to numerous unrelated topics." Continuing education activities that involve less than 10 contact hours of instruction will be evaluated carefully for merit as a significant learning experience. Only complete instructional hours are considered in assigning total CEUs. Fractions are disregarded.
