Jan. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Saginaw, MI - The United Way of Saginaw County, Saginaw Valley State University Office of Continuing Education & Professional Development announce the next Nonprofit “Best Practices” Management Certificate Program for Winter/Spring 2013.  The course is located at Saginaw Valley State University, Curtiss Hall, Wednesdays - February 27 - April 10, 2013, 8:00 am-3:30 pm.

The curriculum for this noncredit certificate program consists of 36 classroom hours. The certificate is awarded upon completion of ten three-hour workshops, 1 six-hour grant writing workshop, and  a Capstone presentation. This workshop is intended to develop practical, applied, and useful skills in the following areas: Planning, Evaluation, Financial Management, Transparency and Accountability, Board Governance, Strategic Alliances, Advocacy and Public Policy, Social Media & Marketing, Fund Development and Grant Writing.

This certificate program is designed for: (1) New and aspiring nonprofit managers who want to develop the fundamental skills to effectively manage a nonprofit organization; (2) Experienced nonprofit managers who want to become more effective by refining their skills and (3) Members of nonprofit boards of directors and other interested individuals who want to better understand nonprofit organizations.

With the “Best Practices” tools and techniques, our participants return to the nonprofit sector ready to meet and overcome today’s challenges. The participating nonprofit leader is offered the opportunity to share ideas and experiences with others in the same industry. Participants also have the opportunity to learn and network together in a comfortable knowledge-building environment.

“We have had over 100 participants complete the program. They return to their organization and apply what they have learned. This is a win-win for the nonprofit organization, the people they serve, and the community as a whole” – Monica Reyes, Program Director.

Grants may be available for agencies funded or affiliated with United Way.  Applications will be accepted through February 20, 2013.
