Kia to Integrate Google Software Into New Models

Jan. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Kia Motors America is planning on releasing the second-generation of its technology suite, UVO eServices, with the debut of the 2014 Sorento model. The new UVO system will be unique thanks to its purely app-based telematic interface. This set-up allows drivers to quickly and easily interact with their Kia via apps on their smart phone or other mobile devices.

Probably the most anticipated benefit of this new app-based system is the integration of Google software such as Google Maps. A significant factor about integrating Google Maps is that drivers have a familiarity with the ubiquitous product.

Google Maps’ integrated features like My POI allow drivers to send a specific destination to the UVO from their smartphone, even when they are away from their car. The next time they step into their vehicle and their smartphone interfaces with the UVO via Bluetooth, the saved location will appear.

Besides the integration of Google Maps, the next generation of the UVO eServices suite will also feature:

Advance Voice Recognition Software, allows drivers to access and operate many UVO functions without ever taking their hands off of the wheel.
Parking Minder, sends information about the vehicle's location to the driver's phone if they forgot where they had parked.
Car Care Web, a system that connects drivers with vehicle diagnostic information, maintenance schedules, driving behavior, and more either through their computer or mobile device.
Vehicle Diagnostics, communicates with different Kia service centers if a vehicle problem is found and can schedule an appointment upon the driver's request.
911 Connect, automatically dials emergency response teams if the UVO senses an airbag deployment. The system will read the vehicle's location to the emergency operator. The driver then has 10-seconds to cancel the call before it is placed.
