Hundreds of schools across Australia are in the same situation, with many more in high risk areas even if they don’t have to evacuate first.
“At Glenorie Public School we have implemented a mobile app that enables us to instantly notify parents when we have been evacuated. This allows parents to pick up their children quickly and saves anxiety for everyone,” said Lynette.
Many government and private schools have implemented the custom mobile app from ‘Active School Apps’ for use in bush fire evacuation plans as well as for many other benefits such as; giving parents control over sending in electronic absentee notes, reading newsletters on their phone and generally making communication with parents easier.
The use of mobile technology in Australian schools is set to increase dramatically both in and out of the classroom. It is expected that Australian’s using smartphones will reach 62% by the end of January 2013.
Leigh Kostiainen, General Manager of ‘Active School Apps’ said the response to their apps has been dramatic. “Late 2012 saw a few hundred early adopters implement a custom mobile app in their schools. While 2013 will see hundreds more acquire their own custom school app.”
