About Flyin’ to the Hoop
The Good Samaritan Hospital Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational celebrates its 11th annual event this year, but that’s just another feather in the cap for the popular prep hoops extravanganza. Another would be sustaining its recognition as one of the countries top high school basketball productions.
Named the No. 2 high school basketball event nationally by CBS Sports/MaxPreps, the Good Samaritan Flyin to the Hoop has blossomed into a showcase for future pros and top teams from Ohio and around the country.
During the course of its 11-year run, the Good Samaritan Flyin’ to the Hoop has hosted 25 future NBA Players and hundreds of Division I college players.  Some of the names that
have performed at Kettering’s Trent Arena (and Vandalia Butler’s Student
Activities Center before
that) include: Brandon
Knight (Detroit Pistons), Anthony Davis (New Orleans Hornets), J.R Smith (New York Knicks), Rudy Gay (Memphis Grizzlies), Brandon Jennings (Milwaukee Bucks), Nolan Smith (Portland Trailblazers) and DeAndre Jordan (L.A. Clippers). Locally, three of Dayton’s four recent NBA players - Dunbar’s Daequan Cook (Chicago Bulls) and Norris Cole (Miami Heat) and Trotwood-Madison’s Chris Wright (Golden State Warriors) - played multiple games at the Good Samaritan Flyin to the Hoop.
The event has a local economic impact of over $1.6 million annually and draws 20,000 spectators over the 4-day event.
