Mr. Guthrie’s class lasted about an hour in duration and explored the fundamentals of planning estates including the many different kinds of estate classifications and how assets are divided among them, how the probate court system functions, what happens when one has no plan or documents, how a last will and testament works, the ins and outs and advantages and disadvantages of a living trust, how to plan for healthcare decisions and asset management in the case of incapacity, the most common mistakes people make and misconceptions that people have when planning an estate, and all of the things that one should think about when preparing and compiling all important personal information and documents in one place. There was time for questions and answers after the presentation and questions ranged from the need of both a husband and a wife to have estate planning documents and why it would be necessary for them both to have them, the uses of a living trust for a single person, and when is too late to make and estate plan and what health condition is too late. Attorney Guthrie enjoyed coming back to the Goose Creek Library and making free public presentation that was well attended and had active participation. Mr. Guthrie teaches several public legal classes a year and his website should be consulted for future events.
