Theresa Drye candidacy has the capacity to make history, as her election as Mayor will make her the First African American Woman elected to this government post and only the second African American.

About: Theresa Drye is a lifelong resident of the Village of Hempstead. She attended Marshall Elementary School where she was one of the first students to participate in the Head Start Program.
She went on to attend what is now known as the Barack Obama Elementary School. Following the educational process designed for the Village of Hempstead, she graced the halls of Alberta Shurtz Middle School and went on to graduate from Hempstead High School at the age of 16. Upon graduation she set off to Cheyney State University, in Pennsylvania, the nation’s first historically African American college.
She returned home to further her studies at C.W. Post Center of Long Island University.
Theresa worked her way through school as a nurse technician, while also being assigned to internships at The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, The District Attorney’s Office, Criminal Trial Bureau and The Drug and Alcohol Addiction, S.T.E.P. Program of Nassau County.
Theresa received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Long Island University in Criminal Justice and Political Science with a concentration in The American Political Process. While attending Long Island University Theresa was inducted into the illustrious ranks of The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

It is also the seat of government for the town of Hempstead, the largest minor civil division in the nation with over seven hundred thousand people.
