Jan. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- Dr. Leonard Tau of the Pennsylvania Center for Dental Excellence in Northeast Philadelphia is pleased to announce that he is the first dentist in Philadelphia to offer his patients the new Cerec Omnicam same day crowns in his office.  This new technology allows Dr. Tau to provide one visit inlay, onlay, crowns and veneers to his patients.  No more 2nd visits, no more temporaries, one visit and you are done.  The Omnicam is the newest camera in a long line of cameras.

CEREC allows his  practice to offer a tremendous level of service to all patients. Instead of taking two or three weeks to create and implement a crown, Dr. Leonard Tau and the Pennsylvania Center for Dental Excellence  is able to do so in a single appointment. The patient will be able to leave the same day with a fully constructed dental crown(s).

Prior to CEREC in Philadelphia and in his practice, fabricating a dental crown was much more complicated. To do so, Dr. Tau took a digital impression of the tooth using another piece of dental technology called the Itero.  That digital information allowed a model to be milled and then sent to his dental laboratory where a crown was fabricated in about 2 weeks. During the two weeks the patient would wear a plastic temporary that was fabricated prior to dismissing the patient from the appointment.  At times this temporary could loosen and dislodge requiring another visit to have it recemented.

CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic. CEREC uses special imaging technology to get an accurate digital representation of the patient's tooth. Using specialized software, Dr. Tau  then is able to design a crown that will fit perfectly within the patient's tooth. An on-site milling machine is then used to physically create the crown, allowing Dr. Tau to permanently attach to the patient's tooth. The ceramic material used to create the crown or filling expands and contracts as natural teeth do. Because of this, there is no danger of cracking. Furthermore, they are neither too hard nor too soft. There is no undue wear and the patient will not need to replace them time and again as one might with older crown or filling technology. They also accurately represent the visual aesthetic of natural teeth. The crown is ready for placement in as little has 1 1/2 hours and looks and feels like a natural tooth.

The Cerec Omnicam has the following advantages compared to earlier version of the camera.
