Since its release last week, the melodic lilting familiar phrases of old time calypso, fused with new age funk with insistent cadence, have been getting rave reviews from fans across the World Wide Web and sending a flurry of buzz congratulating the AQ on their resonating pulse of Caribbean artistry.
The early release of “Soca Jig” is no coincidence. The song is being released early, just on the heels of the International Soca Monarch competition;
The Caribbean Prestige Foundation for the Performing Arts is a non-profit organization and expects millions of music lovers and students of the arts worldwide to gather, As the Soca industry places particular emphasis on nurturing the talent of young Soca artistes, it was established to develop and promote the genre unto the international stage, by hosting this world class Soca event. The 2013 Commentary Panel for the International Soca Monarch competition will consist of; actress Nia Long, Actress Tatyana Ali, actor Damien Dante Wayans, actor Darrin Dewitt Henson and the master of Soca icon, Jason Bishop Popularly known as “Shaft” within the Soca Fraternity. The Soca Monarch semifinals begin January 20th at 6 pm.
With all its fan fair, The Alternative Quartet are garnering attention from some of the most sought after A list music artistes’ in the industry and hopes to draw the attention of some of the mega participants at the Soca Monarch to colab with during the festivities. One of artist of interest for the AQ is SOCA star Bunji Garlin who, recently released #Differentology under the Sheriff Music label. His 2013 carnival hit landed the number two spot in iTunes top single charts for the most downloaded song, world-wide.
