Jan. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- FREMONT, CA -- (January 15, 2013) iwNetworks is pleased to announce new second generation Software Defined Network switches. New SDN technologies aim to lower network hardware costs and reduce operational expenses.

Complications often arise when implementing new technologies into existing networks. The iwNetworks SDN 8254S and SDN 8952S switches address these challenges by combining traditional switch functions with OpenFlow, allowing for side-by-side operation. Network administrators can benefit immediately from SDN without disrupting their existing infrastructure.

The SDN 8952S and SDN 8254S L2/L3 switches enable Out-of-the-Box software defined networking with OpenFlow, allowing for quick integration with leading commercial or open source controllers. iwNetworks switches exhibit flexibility at an affordable price.

The 8952S is a fully featured hybrid-mode 64-port 10GbE top-of-rack switch. The 8952S features 48x 10GbE SFP+ ports and 4x 40GbE QSFP+ ports for a total of 64x 10GbE ports. It supports industry-standard switch management through CLI, SNMPv1/2/3, via 1x RJ-45 serial console or 1x RJ45 100/1000BASE-T out-of-band management front ports. The standard power configuration features dual redundant hot-swap 400W power. A three plus one redundant hot-swappable fan tray insures a cooling operation in the 1U chassis.

The 8254S is an advanced hybrid-mode 48-port 1GbE stackable distribution switch. The 8254S features 48x 1GbE ports, 4x 10GbE SFP+ ports, and two rear 40GbE option slots. Option slots support either 4x 10GbE SFP+ or 1x 40GbE QSFP+ stacking uplink (or 4x 10GbE uplink) modules. Up to 10 switches can be stacked. The standard power configuration features dual redundant hot-swap 200W power supplies. Two hot-swappable redundant fans insure cooling operations in the 1U chassis. A POE option is available for switch powered client devices like VoIP handsets. 8254S POE versions upgrade PSUs from dual 200W dual to dual 900W supplies.

Hybrid-Mode OpenFlow Solutions
Both models support a traditional L2/L3 or OpenFlow switch configuration. Assign or mix ports in a single switch. Simplify your SDN network design integration without disrupting the current network environment.

The SDN 8952S and SDN 8254S switches deliver tomorrow's network technologies while maintaining compatibility with your existing infrastructure. Reap the benefits of the higher performance, increased flexibility, and lower costs of your network.
