In her chapter, Advanced Social Media Strategies, Flaim talks about how the use of social media relates to the design industry, and shares the strategies she uses to build relationships with her audience and potential clients on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn, such as DIY Fridays, which feature interesting articles and photos of recycled and repurposed furnishings, decorating ideas, and tips on color trends. She also gives advice to other creative professionals on how, what, and where to post online in order to engage their target audience, build a following, and expand their clientele.
Since Flaim’s business is completely visual, she uses that quality to draw in potential clients and build a following by posting a lot of images on her social network accounts. “You have to post in a way that draws people in and offer an experience online that followers want to have in their own lives and homes,” noted Flaim.
Another point she makes in the chapter is that it is important to not sell all the time but rather, to share information and ideas that followers in turn want to share with others. “It takes time and creativity, but you can build an audience and interactive relationships with people through these social media channels.” Flaim and Tabano found each other through LinkedIn.
