In Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader:
"Although our initiative as Cheer Channel was to create original programming for cheerleaders, we clearly were able to capture those tween and teen girls and their families who enjoy great shows that have the excitement of cheerleading as a backdrop," said Cindy Villarreal, founder and CEO of Cheer Channel, and co-creator of the franchise. Villarreal is also a former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. “Having the production shot in my hometown is a real plus too because cheerleading is so popular in Texas.”
Casting for the series was conducted by Beth Sepko, with credits including popular television series Friday Night Lights, Dallas and The Lying Game, along with big screen movie hits, Spy Kids 1, 2 and 3 where she discovered Selena Gomez, popular Disney actress and singer. The series was written by writer and producer, Kathy Slevin, who holds numerous prime-time television series and movies to her credit including the hugely popular, The Zack Files, as well as Due South, and Ferris Bueller. Series executive producers and creators are Lance Robbins and Cindy Villarreal.
Special guests in the series include prominent cheerleaders from across the United States. Media Day is scheduled for this Saturday to Meet the Cast and conduct interviews as well as capture Behind-the-Scenes footage of the practice scenes in the production.
