RAQUELA: CD, Video and... a Fundraiser?

Jan. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Raquela, a popular independent dance music recording artist, announced on December 10th, 2012 that she was going to conduct her very first fundraiser ever (via Kickstarter), to help raise money towards her next Dance single of 2013. It is amazing that the recording arts have come down to this... fundraising. According to the Kickstarter site, the fundraiser ends on Feb. 6th, 2013.

Supposedly, recording artists were able to make their money through the sale of their CD's. But now the empire of the internet has taken over. Before the internet there were literally several major record labels everywhere. Now, there are only three in existence. Recording artists on major record labels usually make 10% and sometimes 15% of the retail sale price of their album. Sometimes a certain percentage of that is given to the producer of the record. The record label then takes 85% to 90% of each product sold. After that, the label will recoup the cost of the recording and production cost which they front to the artist. Artists on independent record labels can receive as much as 50% of the product sold at retail price. It isn't uncommon for artists to go into debt to their record label. CD's basically give the artist exposure and is not a revenue source. Artists make most of their money from touring and merchandise which the record label typically isn't involved.

Even a talented and dynamic beauty like Raquela, who is booking major events like The White Party, The Dinah Shore and The Coachella, still has to start from the beginning in order to keep up with the high demand from her fan base of listeners. "Giving up now would be foolish!" said Raquela after a performance at the CCBC in Palm Springs. "I'm here to stay, that's for sure! This new release (OMG I Just Keep On Dancin') is extremely exciting knowing what it's all about and who is on the creative team!" (LA Rush, remixes by Keith Kemper, DJ's from Mars, and many more) Raquela, who played leads on Broadway in New York City, had the privilege of working with names like Carol Burnet, Cloris Leachman, Bernadette Peters, Chita Rivera and many more. Then she went on to open for pop stars like Deborah Cox, Lady Gaga, Lisa Lisa, Crystal Waters and many, many more. Raquela's cover release of Taylor Daynes, TELL IT TO MY HEART (Label: ISV Entertainment) ruled the Top 40 charts in DJ Times for 28 weeks! Now she can no longer handle the costs of releasing a single alone. Let's hope that after all these years of hard work, her fans and friend will come through for her this time.

It's ironic that the song she hopes to release this year (OMG) is about facing whatever life throws at you by just keeping on dancing! Raquela goes on to say, "Even though break-ups are just as tough as life's daily challenges, don't give up on YOUR life. Don't stop trying. Keep doing your best and just love...."
