Sales of the Chevrolet Volt Hybrid Triple in 2012

The gas-electric vehicle is available to purchase from Biggers Chevy in Elgin, Illinois.

Jan. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- At Biggers Chevy in Elgin, IL (http://www.biggerschevy.com/new-and-used-vehicles-elgin.htm), the hybrid Chevy Volt is quickly becoming one of the more popular cars on the lot. The Volt has the longest battery life of any hybrid vehicle currently on the market and was designed so that drivers could make their standard commute using only electricity to power the vehicle. Last year, sales of the Chevy Volt tripled.

The total sales for the Chevrolet Volt in 2012 were 23,461, much better than in the previous year when the Volt made its debut. These numbers indicate that consumers are valuing more energy-responsible vehicles. The estimate for total electric vehicle sales in 2012 sits at about 53,000, which has also tripled from 2011. While a small number in comparison to overall vehicle sales, there’s no doubt consumers are turning to more fuel efficient cars.

For those concerned with the amount of energy used by automobiles, sales of the Chevy Volt are a sign of positive change. Vehicles in the United States are second in energy consumption as stated by the US Energy Information Administration. According to the Administration, consumers used a total of 8.63 million gasoline barrels each day to power their cars and light trucks. So far Volt drivers have driven 117 million miles on electric power and saved 6.2 million gallons of gasoline.

The latest 2013 Volt (http://www.biggerschevy.com/2013-chevrolet-volt.htm) features an electric motor with an output of 149 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque that’s powered by a 16 kilowatt lithium-ion battery. Four different driving modes help to maximize the charge of the electric battery along with regenerative braking and energy generated by the internal-combustion engine. The Volt’s all-electric range can last up to 50 miles on some charges and then averages about 35 mpg when running on the gasoline engine.
The newest Chevy Volt is available to test drive at Biggers Chevy. The Elgin car dealership is located at 1385 East Chicago Street; they are open Monday through Saturday each week.
