The impacts of domestic violence (DV) upon children, their behavior & their biology. Two real, brief case studies will be presented to start the seminar. DSM diagnoses will be presented to explain the children's behavior before utilizing a domestic violence perspective to understand the home environment, which might better explain some of the children's behavior. Is it ADHD or DV? Is it a fugue state or DV? An article by Bruce D. Perry, M.D., Ph. D. will be reviewed to further explain and clarify the biological impacts of violence and/or stress on children, delineating that which leads to resilience and that which leads to functional deficits & future vulnerability.
The collaboration of Human Resource Essential, LLC and The DVU expects to address that via convenient, on-demand webinars. The specific goal is to educate counselors & interested persons about domestic abuse dynamics so that proper assessments and interventions are designed.
