Phoebe Harpham and Sophia Atkin join from Stephen Burdon Solicitors and Fiddler & Pepper Solicitors in Ashfield respectively. Phoebe has completed her Level 2 in Business Administration whilst Sophia has passed her Level 2 in both Business Administration and Customer Service. They are being joined by Ellis Thompson who has recently completed her A’ levels whilst school leaver Callum Barrett has relocated from Catterick Barracks to Nottingham.
Browne Jacobson’s apprenticeship scheme has been set up in partnership with West Nottinghamshire College as well as ILEX Tutorial College, the wholly owned college of The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx).
The new cohort will join the firm’s Technical Claims and Clinical Negligence teams providing a range of business support functions. In addition ILEX Tutorial College, in partnership with West Nottinghamshire College, will take the apprentices through the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Legal Administration. The training element will be supplemented with additional legal specific from CILEX’s Level 3 qualifications to include for example the law of tort and civil litigation.
Browne Jacobson is one of a handful of national firms that have developed their own apprenticeship scheme for young people keen to pursue a career in the legal sector. The firm is currently considering extending the scheme to its Birmingham office in 2013.
The growth of the scheme comes as the Government is campaigning to encourage young people to consider high quality professional apprenticeships in areas such as law, finance and accountancy as an economically attractive alternative to going to university. The number of young people heading to university fell by 57,000 this autumn amid concerns over rising tuition fees.

Apprentice Phoebe Harpham said:

Callum Barrett added:
