NFL Alumni, JJ McCleskey and Nate Singleton Train Student Athletes

JJ McCleskey and Nate Singleton join together to train student athletes.

PRLog - Jan. 7, 2013 - On Sunday afternoons in the suburb of Covington located north of New Orleans, NFL Alumnus, JJ McCleskey, can be found in the gym or on the field training a group of student athletes who have a dream of playing sports beyond the high school and college levels.  JJ’s collegiate career at The University of Tennessee, as well as, his eight-year NFL career with the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals provides him with a wealth of knowledge on the training and dedication required to become an athlete of excellence, academically and athletically.

JJ’s passion for assisting his young athletes is evident year round.  Athletes, from all sports, join JJ weekly where they train and condition in the areas of agility, strength, speed, and technique, with an emphasis on mastering techniques.  Proper technique allows an athlete to excel in their gifted talent, and at the same time, prevents injuries. The athlete’s receptiveness to JJ’s coaching instruction is apparent by the numbers of students that show up willingly on Sunday afternoons to train.

Eager to learn, the group gathers around to absorb as much information on form and technique before each skill set or drill.  These young athletes are strong, yet humble, in knowing that being teachable is the ultimate asset to becoming a stronger advanced athlete.  Accountability, along with encouragement, is a part of JJ’s training style.  His athletes, from schools across the area, are a team when they train together.  They hold themselves, as well as, the group accountable in their efforts to excel.  JJ coaches with a heart of drive and determination.  His passion and mission is to see his student athletes mature into young men who can walk onto any field or court and have pride knowing they've worked hard to achieve their goals of being a great athlete.  JJ sees and affirms potential in each athlete that joins his group of amazing kids that have put their trust in him and his coaching.

On Sunday, January 6, 2013, Nate Singleton, NFL Alumnus, joined JJ at the gym where Nate inspired and coached a group of young hard working student athletes whose mission is to be outstanding in season and off season.  Nate's emphasis on "hard work" is parallel to JJ's coaching style.  The collaboration of these two NFL Alumni shows a passion for our younger generation by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and resources to move beyond the obstacles that face many of our athletes today.  Nate drove the message of "knowledge is key".  Without knowledge and hard work, the road to success, whether academically or athletically, can seem far reached, but providing instruction and inspiration to the group showed that their dreams and goals are and can be attainable.

JJ McCleskey is gifted with a talent and passion of affecting change in the lives of the younger athletes of today.  The athletic journey of many student athletes will be positively changed as a result of his love of coaching, along with the hard work put in by the many of athletes he trains year round.
