LOVE IN ACTION: Recording Artist, Children & Volunteers Carry On The Love Epidemic

Tawanda Robbins and Community Volunteers continue the Love Epidemic for the third year by showing Love to Nursing Home Residents and Homeless on Valentine’s Day. Love in Action expands by partnering with Friendship Trays ‘Meals on Wheels’.

Jan. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- The goal of Love in Action is to replace the feeling of despair and loneliness in those most forgotten.  The group strives to mobilize people to demonstrate God’s love to any person in need.  Their unique approach is to express the message of love through handmade cards from toddlers to teens.  These cards restore hope, boost happiness, give confidence, and penetrate the hearts of the receiver.  Love in Action aims to make February 14th a memorable day for nursing home residents, homeless individuals, and those who may be otherwise forgotten.

Love in Action began in 2011 and was a celebrated success.  A team of 18 three-year-olds along with 16 adult volunteers kicked off the campaign at Sardis Oaks Nursing Home in Charlotte, NC.  The day ended with delivery of cards and candy to homeless individuals in uptown Charlotte.  Love in Action also spread outside of Charlotte to include South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Louisiana.

In 2012, Love in Action received and distributed over 3,500 handmade cards to Charlotte nursing homes and homeless individuals.  The group also partnered with The King’s Kitchen, a not-for-profit restaurant, and fed 300 individuals at the Dove’s House, Change Choices, the Charlotte Rescue Mission, local domestic violence shelter, and homeless individuals.  Communities in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, and Arkansas also joined in.

Love in Action’s goal for 2013 has once again expanded.  Thanks to a new partnership with Friendship Trays, a card will be given to each of the 700 recipients of their ‘Meals on Wheels’ program.  This brings the goal up to 4,200 and we need your help to meet this ambitious goal.

When you allow children to participate in projects like Love in Action, it gives them the opportunity to not only learn a lesson of love but also practice it for themselves.  Children discover that they are important and that they can make a difference… simply with a crayon.  Adult volunteers and area children distribute the ‘I love you’ cards to the nursing homes.  Additionally, adult volunteers distribute cards to the homeless in uptown Charlotte.  The experience is priceless.
