The Friends’ History Scholarship was established in 2012 to advance their mission of enriching the community by serving as guardians for the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, by advocating preservation of Cary historic sites, by archiving history and facilitating history education, and by promoting the cultural arts.
The dedication and deep commitment of this group are driving forces behind Cary’s historic preservation efforts. The Friends take great pride in maintaining the beauty and history of Cary and wish to encourage those attributes in area youth through this scholarship.
The $750 award is given to a high school senior who is a Cary resident, and may be used for any educational-
To be eligible, students must submit a 600-1,000 word essay on a local history topic, along with an application and letter of recommendation from their High School history instructor. The 2013 History Scholarship essay topic is The Role of Education in Making Cary What it is Today.
Completed applications are due by April 15, 2013. The scholarship recipient will be notified by May 30, 2013 and recognized at the Friends’ Board of Directors meeting on June 5, 2013.
