- Jan. 3, 2013 - NEW JERSEY, N.J. --
So called religious groups with little or no official mold training are performing Mold Remediation in New Jersey putting the public at risk for exposure to mold. These non licensed organizations are removing insulation and sheetrock without first sampling the structure nor are they removing wall board or insulation under 'negative air" HEPA filtered ventilation systems. A homeowner who used one of these organizations for mold remediation called Environmental Systems to inquire about mold testing of their home. I asked the property owner if any safety precautions were followed and the home owner told me no they did not but used a special mold spray to prevent mold. Mold remediation is a process to be performed by qualified and trained personnel. Miracle mold sprays do not exist and could put the property owner at a health risk should the miracle mold spray be composed of toxic or carcinogenic chemicals. Qualified mold remediation companies sample for mold before and after the project and provide detailed project written reports after the project is complete. Qualified companies have proper training and only use EPA approved chemicals.
Many insurance companies are not helping things by underpaying claims for legitimate mold remediation services. Failure to proper remediate a residential or commercial structure can cause " Sick Building Syndrome" that can effect the health of the homes inhabitants.
