A Brand New Airbag System Debuts in the 2013 Chevy Cruze

Chevrolet introduces groundbreaking air bag system to the 2013 Cruze, upgrading the safety features of an already award-winning model.

Jan. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Safety is paramount with Chevrolet’s innovative take on their new airbag system, which was first introduced in the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze (http://www.coxchevy.com/new-vehicles/chevrolet-cruze), now available at Cox Chevrolet in Bradenton, Florida. It’s been designed from the ground up to perform more efficiently than the more standard air bag systems seen in other, similar cars. The staff at Cox Chevrolet has been proudly recommending the Cruze to customers as the one of the most safety-conscious models on the market.

At the 2012 New York Auto Show, Chevrolet unveiled their newest and most impressive feat yet in automotive safety precautions: an efficient air bag that utilizes a flexible venting system, as opposed to the more common dual-stage air bags. The new system is first hitting the streets in the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, which is already well known for its safety features, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded it its highest score in 2011 and 2012 when it still bore the older air bag system.

The common method of air bag inflation was a standard affair: each bag would have two separate inflators that would handle either low speed or high speed impacts exclusively. With such a system based on the exclusivity, there is then the chance of the high-velocity inflator firing during an impact that didn’t necessarily require it, or vice versa. The newer system is a modular one, however. Thanks to its flexibility, it only requires the one low-impact inflator to handle collisions at any velocity. What this means is that there’s less chance of inflation induced injuries, since the force of the body moving forward will help disperse the airbag efficiently no matter what the speed.

The extra engineering pays off, as the result is one of the highest rated safety picks on the market in 2013.  When shopping for a car, a major deciding factor tends to be the safety rating, and Chevrolet sells cars with peace of mind attached.

Chevrolet’s 2013 full line-up is now available at Cox Chevrolet in Bradenton, FL. Those interested in trying out the Cruze’s new features are encouraged to contact a representative (http://www.coxchevy.com/directions-hours) to schedule a test drive. This top-of-the-line inflatable impact safety system is yet another important Chevy feature for anybody concerned about driving safety.
