MHI Muffle Furnace Now nearing 1800°C

New molybdenum disilicide heating elements allow MHI muffle furnaces to reach temperatures near 1800°C. The elements combined with high performing refractories allow for unprecedented energy efficiency.

Jan. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- MHI's Muffle Furnace line has begun using molybdenum disilicide heating elements, allowing for temperatures near 1800°C in most furnace models. Higher operating temperatures are expected to invite new applications for MHI's furnaces, including brazing, heat treating, sintering and a number of other specialized applications.

The temperature boost is achieved through a combination of hotter elements and better insulation, in some cases up to 3 layers of refractory are used. This combination allows for higher efficiency and possibly lower energy usage.

MHI's M-Series box/muffle furnaces are expected to be immediate beneficiaries of the advances. Commonly ordered sizes include 12"x12"x16", 8"x7"x8" and 12"x12"x14", but a variety of furnaces are expected to be affected by this upgrade. The electronic controls are planned to be compatible with the upgrade.
