David Gilbert, of San Antonio, Texas, won the IFWTWA 2012 Emerging Writer Scholarship Award for his story, “The American Apprentice,”
Today, Gilbert is an Executive Chef. Inspiration for his story came from the hard knocks he endured and the respect he earned at the dawn of his culinary career.
“Writing, traveling, cooking and (lets be honest) eating are passions that fuel my inner soul every day,” says Gilbert. “I have recently published my first book (Kitchen Vagabond, published by Infinity Publishing), and as a new author I am looking forward to fulfilling my ambition to write a second book.”
Gilbert's award includes a one-year 2013 membership in IFWTWA with all regular member benefits and a cash prize.
The Emerging Writer second place winner was Isabella Zampetaki of Athens, Greece; Mariah Douglas of Dayton, Ohio, took third place.
